STANTHORPE #3 HUNTING PROPERTY

Our Stanthorpe #3 property is 9,500 acres with undulating, open grasslands, scrub, hills, mountain, and forest areas. There are flowing and semi-dry creeks. Glenlyon dam is 78 kilometers, and Coolumunda dam is 46 kilometers away.

Sheep, goats, horses, and cattle graze in the open grassland and scrub. There is abundant wildlife like wild pigs, wild dogs, deer, foxes, cats, rabbits. These animals are allowed for hunting except for the goats.                                                          

Goats are available by negotiation.

Shooting, hunting, bow hunting allowed. Dogs, bikes and buggies are not.

There is no need to drive a four-wheel vehicle to arrive at the property but required for crossing creeks and roads to the campsites and around the property. 

The property is a 50-kilometer drive to Stanthorpe and 10 kilometers to Inglewood. Visitors can visit anytime well before dark and at a time agreed to arrive.

Firewood - the property has ample firewood for you to collect at no cost.

Camping and 6 room accomodation (3 x twin share, 3 x queen room configuration) available. Recently upgraded bush kitchen, BBQ, pots & utensils, power, full size fridge freezer, microwave. Shower & toilet.

Visitors can sight-in rifles. Target shooting is fine in allocated areas. 

Visitors also must bring all gear for hunting and camping. However, they can request for a continental breakfast at extra cost in advance from the property owners. 

Terrain

This property has picturesque views with 650 meters+ elevation in numerous locations.

Gentle running streams, creeks, and springs with crystal clear water also run through the property. Open to semi-open country, timbered ridges, and gorgeous secluded campsites. 

Visitors can choose a campsite with a view, beside a creek, or both. Some beautiful open valleys rise to mountainous ridges. Roads/tracks need some work. So, four-wheel drive vehicles are essential for access.

Accommodation and Facilities

There is a range of camping sites the visitors can put up their tents. They need to bring everything to make their camping enjoyable.

The renovated Shearers quarters has 6 rooms (3 x twin, 3 x queen rooms), fans, litghts, verandah.

The Bush kitchen has power lights, a furdge, freezer, utensils, coffee, tea, microwave, jug, fry pan and BBQ, however visitors must bring gas. Fire pit area is generous with flood lights overlooking it. Shower with continuous hot water and toilet.

all quarters are comfortable, clean recently reovated and restyled. Linen, blankets are available at extra cost. There is a $500 bond on accommodation for first visits.

This property is the perfect place to target shoot, hunt or bow hunt, as there is an abundance of wildlife.  Visitors must not hunt near homesteads or buffer paddocks and use designated areas for sighting in and only use biodegradable clays.

Temperature & Rainfall

During summer, the area has a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 24 degrees Celsius. During winter, it has a minimum of 4 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 27 degrees Celsius. The actual climate in Stanthorpe can vary quite a bit. 

This property has roughly 145.6 rainfall days and 495 millimeters of precipitation accumulated throughout the year.

Weather

Stanthorpe is known to be Queensland’s coldest town, however our property experiences warmer conditions on average. Winter offers crisp sunny days and cold nights with mild to moderate frost. Summer days are warm and beautiful, with little to no humidity. Perfect sunny skies are often followed by crisp, clear nights - perfect for hunting.

Like all high country regions, our weather can be changeable and unpredictable, sometimes offering four seasons in one day. We advise you bring a jacket year round and an extra jumper in Winter!

Bring the Whole Family

Wives and children can choose to relax at the camping grounds and read a book, wander at their leisure through the bush or photograph the abundant wildlife and natural scenery.

The township of Stanthorpe is only a 35 minute drive (55 km) and offers numerous cafes, restaurants, boutique stores, a regional art gallery and other tourist attractions. Stanthorpe is also located in the heart of the Granite Belt, and is home to some of Australia’s award winning wineries. The below suggested attractions are all within driving distance to the property and can be visited on a day out during your stay or on the way to/ from the property:

• Pyramids Road Wines (60 minute drive)
• Hidden Creek Vineyard & Café (50 minute drive)
• Kent Saddlery Australia - saddlery with gallery style retail store, animal park and picnic area (40 minute drive)
• Mt Stirling Olives (45 minute drive)
• Bramble Patch Artisan Perserves and Dessertery (50 Minute drive)
• Stanthorpe Cheese (50 minute drive)

Glenlyon Dam and Sundown National Park are also just a 45 minute drive from the property and offer great swimming, fishing, boating, canoeing and bushwalking.

Safety Warnings and Rules

• Ensure you hunt well away from people, livestock, buildings and crops. We do not tolerate the shooting of signs, yards and other infrastructure.
• Gates are to be left as they are found. This is extremely important as livestock are run across the property.
• Electric fences may be active on the property perimeters.
• Hunters must respect the natural environment and leave the property as they found it, taking all rubbish with them. Quality habitat is the key to a healthy population of game and other wildlife.
• It is important for all hunters to understand the concept and principles of ethical hunting, and practice them when in the field. Ethical hunting means that a person knows and respects the game hunted, follows the law and behaves in the right social manner.
• Children must be supervised at all times, particularly when near the water.
• Pots, utensils, crockery and cutlery are supplied in the kitchen, however must be cleaned and put back immediately after use.
• Unfortunately no dogs are permitted due to livestock on the property and baiting for wild dogs.
• Check the directions carefully before you depart as there is no reception on Texas Road leading to the property.
• There are an abundance of kangaroos at dusk and dawn so please drive carefully.

Property Owners Rules

The rules are simple and easy to follow. It is well-explained and stated in the property access book. The most important ones are as follows:

When staying in the property:

1. Leave gates as found
2. Visitors must take all rubbish and dispose of the designated area.

During campfire:

1. Be mindful when starting a campfire or any outdoor fire
2. Put out the fire if there is no need for a campfire
3. Obey if there are fire restrictions especially total fire bans

During hunting:

1. Use designated areas for sighting and clay shooting
2. No shooting at trees
3. No shooting near livestock
4. Respect property boundaries
5. Don't shoot through a boundary
6. No shooting in designated buffer paddock

When driving vehicles:

1. Drive vehicles slowly and sensibly
2. Do not chase animals or any livestock

Stay away from the grazing livestock

Property History & Information

Close by are the Warrior Gold mine and the infamous Terrica station. These places are explored by Alan Cunningham last 1827. The area mined gold, silver, and tin. However, nowadays, it is known for wineries and different locally-produced products.

The previous owners de-stock the property in December 2019 and enabled the game to roam freely. There has been no hunting on the property for several years. Thus, it resulted in abundant wildlife flourishing in the whole area.

After the property owners purchased this land, they started grazing their livestock. It has a long-standing reputation for growing fine wool. They recently bought and bred Dorper sheep cattle.

To maximize the property utility and to help the environment, they decided to accept visitors and allow camping and hunting.

They will be happy to chat with visitors and assist if possible. Visitors must inform them if they have requests so they will help as soon as possible.

Tourist Attractions

The town of Stanthorpe is known for its wineries, restaurants, chocolate factory, cheese factory, and apple and grape festivals. 

Visitors can also visit Girraweciv and Sundown National Park or the world heritage-listed Gondwana Rain Forest. 

They can also experience the Winter Wonderland Snowflakes, or view the art gallery, or bike along Granite Belt.

Additional Supplies

In the town of Inglewood, visitors can replenish their supplies. They have a fuel station, groceries, and ammunition from Wilshire.

There are IGA groceries, Aldi beautiful cafe, and restaurants in the town of Stanthorpe. Furthermore, there are also bakeries, pharmacies, and hotels. Wilshire or John Vichie Firearms have available ammunition supplies.

For access to any of our properties, all Shooters, Non-shooters and Bow Hunters require current membership of one of the following:

• SSAA
• Shooters Union
• An Approved Hunting Organisation (AHO)

All Doggers on dogging approved properties need to be a member of the APDHA

For each non-hunter attending any of our properties, it is compulsory to be covered by current comprehensive public liability insurance. This is a non-negotiable requirement and forms part of your booking contract. Similar to having travel insurance to go on holidays. This insurance is available by being a current member of an AHO, the SSAA or the Shooters Union before your booking is approved.

We also recommend current ambulance cover.
